Artel presents newest system that measures volume within wells by pressure technology

Artel’s VMS is a unique solution to in-process volume measurements of liquids and/or solids within the wells of a plate. The VMS seals each well and cycles through a series of repeated pressurizations to accurately and precisely determine sample volumes in as little as 35 seconds for 96-well plates, and 110 seconds for 384-well plates. Labs that have a need for in-process assay plate volume measurements, such as compound screening labs, should find that this system provides a seamless answer. Regardless of the shape of the well, type of plastic, or density of the contents, this technology will rapidly measure the volume.

There are many advantages in automating laboratory processes. One of the most important is the increase in sample throughput that can be achieved.  To realise this, it is critical that the workflow (sample handling) must be scheduled, to ensure that samples are processed efficiently whilst obeying constraints such as controlled incubation times. There are various methods to determine a schedule, not just within the realms of laboratory automation but within other industries too.  The terms ‘dynamic’, ’event-driven’ and ‘round-robin’ are often used, but the expected behaviour of such systems is often interpreted differently by the users of the automated platform.  This talk will examine the scheduling techniques that are particularly effective for managing laboratory automation work flows, how they work along with the benefits and limitations. We will also present examples of scheduling problems from other industries and how their solutions could be applied to laboratory automation.

Grenova sees this model as an area where labs have room to improve operating efficiency and minimize environmental impact. Hence, TipNovus was created, which serves as an automated pipette tip cleaning system that allows labs to safely reuse completely sanitized tips and reduce costly waste. TipNovus also allows for the reduction of recurring overhead cost of pipette tips. TipNovus is the first automated high throughput tip washer that enables labs to wash, sanitize, and dry large quantities of pipette tips for the purpose of reusing them.
